The trap
A superseded product runs two clocks — and confusing them is the whole trap.
New enrolments — a hard date
One year after the replacement enters the register, the old product is closed to new starts. That's s 14(1)(a)(i) of the 2025 compliance standards, as ASQA's published guidance reads it. Extensions exist, so the date is never absolute.
Students already enrolled — no fixed deadline
They complete and certify, or transfer, in a timely manner — a period your RTO justifies case by case (ASQA 2025 Standards FAQs). No countdown, no teach-out deadline.

Measured August 2026 across 3,884 registered providers with a current registration — the whole register, read in a single day — live scope entries only, historical excluded. The first percentage counts every training product, units of competency included; the second counts only qualifications, accredited courses and skill sets. The median stay comes from all 2,795 superseded products in the census, each dated against the register's own supersession record — about one in six has run past two years. Separately, on 20 August 2026 we computed the item 14 enrolment cut-off for every superseded product on every live scope, across the 3,628 ASQA-regulated providers item 14 binds: 835 products, on 591 of those scopes, reach that computed date on 4 and 5 September 2026. Method
How it works — and where scope counting goes wrong
The public scope endpoint returns your entire history, not your live scope. Counting historical entries inflates exposure up to 20×. We filter to what is genuinely on scope today before saying a word.

Your enrolments. The scope check reflects what you're registered to deliver, not who's enrolled — that only shows up in your student management system.
