CHC30121: the enrolment window, measured

CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is superseded, and new enrolments into it are not permitted from 23 December 2026 under item 14 — on every one of the 371 ASQA-regulated live scopes that carry it. That makes it the largest single-product wave in the whole cut-off calendar: no other product with a computed date still ahead sits on more live scopes. This is not a breach finding and not a prediction — it is arithmetic the register publishes the inputs for and never performs.

Where the date comes from

The replacement, CHC30125, joined the national register with a first release dated 23 December 2025. Item 14 of the 2025 Compliance Standards (F2025L00355, in force 1 July 2025) attaches a clock to that event: under s 14(1)(a)(i), as ASQA's published guidance reads it (ASQA guidance, read live 25 August 2026), new enrolments into the superseded product are not permitted from one year after its replacement joined the register — later if ASQA has approved otherwise for the provider. One year from 23 December 2025 is 23 December 2026.

Equivalent — so what is the work?

The register flags CHC30125 as equivalent to CHC30121. That makes the transition about the enrolment window rather than re-training: learners moving across are not starting again. It does not make the transition nothing — new enrolments after the computed date go into the new code, marketing and funding paperwork follow the new code, and each enrolled learner still needs a dated record of how their enrolment finishes or transfers. The equivalence flag describes the mapping; it does not move the date, and only ASQA can.

The wave it arrives in

Cut-offs cluster, because the register publishes replacements in package releases: the same 23 December date lands on CHC40221 School Based Education Support and CHC50221 School Age Education and Care, released the same day. Across the three codes the wave covers 470 scope instances on 386 ASQA-regulated providers — with CHC30121 accounting for 371 of them by itself. The day before, 22 December, a separate wave of 50 instances arrives — mostly pathology collection with equivalent replacements, plus 6 audiometry and optical instances whose replacements the register flags not equivalent. What a provider can still decide

A provider carrying CHC30121 reaching 23 December with every option open can: enrol its final intake into CHC30121 before the computed date, move new intakes to CHC30125, or apply to ASQA for an extension of the enrolment window. What it cannot do is set the date itself — it arrived on the register's schedule the day CHC30125 was released, and only ASQA can move it for a given provider.

How this was measured, and what it does not say

The scope count comes from reading every ASQA-regulated live scope on training.gov.au, product by product, on 20 August 2026 — the same measurement behind the register-wide cut-off article, with the method and its limits published there. The CHC30121 → CHC30125 chain, the equivalence flag and the release date were then checked by hand against the live register before publishing. Every date here is the computed date: ASQA can extend it for a given provider and we cannot see which extensions apply. And the register records what is on a scope, not who is enrolled — a provider may have stopped enrolling into CHC30121 long ago. Only the provider knows.
