Can an RTO still enrol new students in SIF20108?

For an RTO registered by ASQA, new enrolments are not permitted today, unless ASQA has approved otherwise — for your organisation, for a class of RTOs, or for all RTOs. The one-year point this rule counts from — one year from the date the replacement was included on the National Register — fell earlier, on 21 June 2014. That date is arithmetic, not a day on which this instrument prohibited anything: s 14(1)(a)(i) of the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator (Compliance Standards for NVR Registered Training Organisations and Fit and Proper Person Requirements) Instrument 2025 (F2025L00355) commenced on 1 July 2025 and imposes nothing before then. RTOs registered by VRQA in Victoria or by the TAC in Western Australia are not covered by it.

Is there a deadline for learners already enrolled in SIF20108?

Learners already enrolled have no fixed deadline: they complete the product and are issued their AQF certification, or transfer to the replacement, in a timely manner (ASQA guidance, read live 25 August 2026).

Revised qualification provides greater flexibility to reflect other job outcomes for the funeral services industry at the AQF 2 level. Changes to packaging rules include the removal of specialisations and greater choice of imported units from other training packages and accredited courses. The total number of units required to complete this qualification remains at 12. The number of core units has decreased from 5 to 3. The number of elective units has increase from 7 to 9.
